As I sat by the window ledge,

Staring at the never ending horizon,

Pictures of smoke emanating,

O! smoke from the debris of not so important things,

That, considered as waste by one,

Regarded as precious by another,

Comes he, to collect the paper,

That was thrown away,

Could be used to light the fire,

At supper time,

Yet another,

Workers carrying bricks atop their head.

Inside the coziness of our home,

Hardly we think about those,

Come rain or shine,

Ensured, we could return to a tiny corner of this planet,

After long hours at work,

A safe haven,

Unrestricted by rules, predominant in everyday mundanity,

Unbound by pretence, otherwise common in the ways of the world,

Undisrupted by chaos, evident in worldly dealings.

A home of our own,

Diligently built by the unnamed few,

To proudly showcase on the outside our cherished names,

While they enjoy their modest supper of gruel and pickle,

Under the blanket of the night sky,

Beneath the natural covers of moonlight starry wonder,

A joyous tune they hum,

Overlooking from the precincts of my home,

I see on their faces,

Joy of assembling a stranger’s dream of a home,

Gifting themselves, devoid of contracts and agreements,

A space under the starry sky.
