Original (Quadrille :- Hoodwinked)

She embraces me from behind,

I dodge hurriedly,

Since long she’s been knocking on my doors for a tete-a-tete,

I amuse her with my pending list of chores,

She offers her unsolicited help,

Hindsight convinces that was her trap,

Focus lost,

Sleep hoodwinks,

Palinode :-

Wish I could feel her embrace,

And didn’t dodge while I did,

Now, though I await her eagerly,

Even her shadow is unseen,

Prudence teaches to plan,

I’m afraid to even be in the present,

Pall of gloom surrounds,

Ambulance sirens chimes,

Sleep?? Who??

Quadrille is of 44 words, I’ve limited the Palinode to 44 words.

Thoughts :- Covid cases are increasing, and it’s scary to hear constant sirens of ambulance.

Acknowledgements :- Thank you Grace for hosting MTB at dVerse. We were asked to write a Palinode, Palinode is essentially :- “A palinode or palinody is an ode or song that retracts or recants a view or sentiment to what the poet wrote in a previous poem.” For rules please refer here. Thank you all for stopping by and reading.

  1. This is so poignant! I love the image; “even her shadow is unseen,”.. the ache, the flood of memories.. is palpable here.
