Why do seasons change?

The moon hangs in low this wintry dawn,

To see if the Sun has risen just yet,

Why do seasons change,

I’ll have summer all over again.

The chattering birds are not to be seen this frigid day,

In haste I turn to see, they are busy munching on a precious hardly found grain,

I’ll have summer all over again,

Why do seasons change,

When summer sun stops by until after twilight,

Citrus scents of lemon wafts across, cooling summer sweat,

Why do seasons change,

I’ll have summer all over again.

The hot embers on a cold night,

Fail to snuggle me of a long gone loved one’s pain,

I’ll have summer all over again,

Why do seasons change,

I want to sing again and again,

Summer sun!!! Pause awhile, don’t go just yet,

Why do seasons change,

I’ll have summer all over again.

Poetry form :- Mirrored Refrain

Mirrored Refrain

The Mirrored Refrain is a rhyming verse form constructed by Stephanie Repnyek.

The poem is formed by three or more quatrains where two lines within the quatrain are the “mirrored refrain” or alternating refrain.

The rhyme scheme is as follows: xaBA, xbAB, xaBA, xbAB, etc..

x represents the only lines that do not rhyme within the poem. A and B represent the refrain. (Source :- Shadow Poetry)

  1. Love this! The seasons really do feel so fleeting, I wish they’d stay a bit longer. I love the relaxation and slowness of the summer (not so much the heat), but I just want to cherish the time in it more. Very well written and beautiful how you convey this! Great take on the prompt.

  2. Let it be summer all the year, smiles. I love the smell of this line:

Citrus scents of lemon wafts across, cooling summer sweat

Thanks for joining in. Have a good weekend.
