An Emperor’s Penance

Battling unearthly climes,
ice freezing body,
amongst company of his men,
journeying into middle-
of an ice filled landscape ,
he guards an egg, his very own.
After lady lays she walks away,
he stays strong until she returns,
an emperor penguin’s
journey into fatherhood,
year after year.

  1. It is an amazing gestation story – while the mother penguin walks miles in search of food. I love the part when she comes back and they maneuvre the wee egg from one to the other. The father having stood stoically through blizzards keeping the egg safe and warm.
