Art of repeating

Alma Thomas, The Eclipse (1970), acrylic on canvas, Smithsonian American Art Museum

if i could write poetry all day,
and if all poetry could be written in a day,
then,
life as i know would be different,
sometimes life feels too large and vast
like counting each grain of sand in a desert
and sometimes
it taunts like a mirage on a long serene road.

I find repeating tasks
therapeutic,
what’s in washing dishes –
foaming them up,
rubbing, rinsing,
see each and every stain removed,
make me earn a halo?

I can very much relate to this Kitty! 👍😁👌 I too find washing and drying dishes or other menial tasks very therapeutic! 😊

  2. If this poem is about bringing things that are to large and vast back under control then you did it – you found your poetry in the manageable dishwashing. Maybe you can write poetry every day and achieve this more often. It only takes one line at a time.

  3. Household chores because of their nature are often therapeutic. But sadly we are not awarded any halos for mundane jobs like doing dishes.
    This resonated deeply, Aishwarya. ❤️

  4. It is a perspective – to look at it as therapeutic instead of annoyance at the chores. I enjoyed your perspective of finding these kinds of tasks soothing and calming.
