times change, people change, circumstances change,
but are crystallised in memories
by poems and poets
by songs and songwriters
they see the world for what it is,
sometimes hallucinate happy harbinger
or do we call it a poet’s parody?
i’d be kidding if i say,
i write for myself ,
for my own satisfaction and solace
of course
i want to my words to be
read, re-read , remembered, reminisced and ruminated upon.
a poet’s worth isn’t measured in pennies,
the syllables they count,
the rhythm and meter measured,
the minuscules of time before a masterpiece births
are the folds of humanity and creation.

So true my friend. First and foremost, we write for ourselves.

A philosophical introspective verse that was interesting to read…and gave me quite a few thoughts..yes pennies are just meaningless pennies…why you write…yes, that is worthy

Yes, thought provoking. I always say I write for myself but maybe I’ve not been fully truthful….

Ah! We do write for ourselves but what are these words if not read by others! How does one measure the worthiness of verses. You are right about pennies, for me it is how many hearts it touched. I am happy with that remuneration. 😊
What a lovely, thought provoking write, Aishwarya. ❤️

Loved all the ‘R’s’. Any of them are the greatest compliment a poet can receive. I definitely ruminated over your poem.

Nice to see you addressing the role of the writers and their needs. To my mind poetry is a rich and engaging art form. All you say is true, we are the cultural record keepers one way or another. However, in my world poetry in particular is not often read and even less likely to be discussed. It only occasionally appears in public discourse. I often wonder why that is?

You’ve sparked some debate about writing for oneself versus writing for posterity, Kitty, at least our words are read down the pub even if they go no further, and a worthy readership that is…
