The fluffy idlis dunked in hot brewing sambar,
Laced with chutneys,
Red, green and white,
As if colours of signal lights at a traffic stop,
Or be it the crunchy dosas,
Mellowed or fired up by accompaniments as you may like,
Be it the solemn pongal or feisty uppittu,
Dancing on the taste buds,
Matched perfectly with strong filter coffee,
Spells divinity to drive away any morning blues.
But for me, I feel like a queen everyday,
To indulge in comforts of a humble brown rice gruel,
With bit of salt and lacings of onions,
To get the mornings going,
It reminds me of a home,
And my mother and hers who fed me,
When I never knew what food was, what gourmet is,
Or extravagance is,
Someday I’ll be indulging my daughter in the same way,
As I was years before.

For a south Indian, dosas and idlis are truly the ultimate breakfast. I prefer,though, a couple of adais with aviyal when possible,they do make for a very fulfilling meal! Wonderfully penned
